Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Sings Hilda had a wonderful performance at The Big Sing last week. They won the trophy for the Best Performance of a NZ Composition and also were awarded Highly Commended for their other two performances from the Classical and Other Styles categories. Ihlara McIndoe received a Highly Commended award in the Student Conductor category. Sings Hilda will now perform at The Big Sing Finale, which takes place in Wellington 13 – 15 August. They are one of only 24 choirs to be invited from over 200 choirs around the country.
We have installed new software over the last couple of weeks called “Linewize’ that is an updated version of the filtering system that we have had in the past.
This is a much more effective system that allows us to manage access to different websites and social media functions on a more individual and robust basis, and also gives us meaningful information on how students are using our network, what sites and systems are being accessed and how much data is being uploaded and downloaded and why.
This system gives us improved tools to manage our network effectively in a way that keeps learning, and devices for learning, as the priority. It supports best practice in that we have accessible, relevant data which then underpins decisions we make about functionality, suitability and accessibility of the internet, because we know what is actually happening in our own school. We can also have a greater degree of certainty that we are keeping the girls as safe as possible in terms of what is accessible during the school day. This software has also been installed for the Tolcarne system.
We have explained in two assemblies with the girls, that installing this new software is not about ‘watching them’ or any ‘big brother’ motivation, but rather supporting their learning and assisting them to continue to use technology in a way that enhances effective learning in the classroom, helps them with good decision making and further develops their skills as digital citizens.
Support for Anglican Family Care
We are keen to support the Anglican Family Care Food Bank Appeal which will go to support people affected by the flooding in South Dunedin.
Collection of items will be in form classes and tutor groups with each level bringing different kinds of things. Girls can combine resources for some of the larger items if necessary. If everyone spent $2-3 we would be able to provide some great support for this worthy appeal.
Suggestions for each year group.
Year 7 & 8 Cans (spaghetti, baked beans, tinned fruit or vegetables)
Year 9 Pasta (lasagne, spaghetti, macaroni, and sauces)
Year 10 Lunch box items (muesli bars, healthy snacks)
Year 11 Breakfast items (cereals, margarine spreads)
Year 12 Toiletries (soap, toothpaste, shampoo)
Year 13 Treats (biscuits, chocolate, instant pudding or jelly packets)
We really appreciate your support in this.
Form class and tutor group photos are being taken on Tuesday. Girls need to be in formal uniform for this.

Congratulations to Georgia Hay who received her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award this week.
With the earlier forecasts of snow this week it may be timely to remind you of our snow day procedures. Cancellations will be broadcast on The Breeze 98.2FM, More FM 97.4FM and Radio Dunedin 1305AM. An email will be sent to parents as well as information being posted on the Parent Portal and the school Facebook page. As always, if school is open, we only ask girls to come to school if they can do so safely.
