Old Girls Philippa Dingle, Georgia Lepine and Julia Stewart with their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Awards

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Last week Ms Corkery attended a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award service for three Old Girls.  Governor General Sir Jerry Mateparae presented Philippa Dingle, Georgia Lepine and Julia Stewart with their awards at the Glenroy Auditorium.

We are delighted to announce that Mrs Ella Murdoch has been appointed to the HOD English role and will join us in January  2016. Mrs Murdoch is an experienced teacher with a special interest in supporting individual learners through Gifted and Talented and Scholarship programmes. Mrs Maw has been an excellent HOD of this curriculum area, and we are grateful for her commitment over the past two years. Mrs Maw has relinquished the HOD role so she can concentrate on leading curriculum initiatives and  staff professional development as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

We farewelled senior students on Tuesday and today NCEA examinations have begun. We know students have worked hard and are well prepared for their examinations and wish them all the best for the opportunity to test and challenge themselves.

On Sunday, two Year 8 students from Woodford House in Havelock North  will arrive in Dunedin to begin their week long exchange.  Millie Davenport and Lily Hornal are lucky enough to travel north to Woodford House at the same time.  We look forward to hearing from them when they return.

Year 10 students depart for Camp Tautuku on Monday morning.  We wish these girls a safe and enjoyable week.

Today we held the Year 10 Speech Final. The standard was very high and the placings will be announced on Monday. Congratulations to the following girls who were selected for the finals: Kaylee Dickison, Hannah Alcock, Olivia O’Neil, Abbey Hawker, Sophie Armstrong, Lydia Holmes, Jaclyn Williams, Helen Knott and Nina Johnston.

Now that seniors have departed, canteen hours have changed.  The canteen will not be available on Mondays.  Tuesday to Friday it will operate out of the Year 13 common room.

Over the past month, the Year 9 form classes and Year 7 and 8 students have participated in a dodgeball competition played during lunchtime.  There has been some fierce inter-form competition and congratulations must go to 9H who were the overall winners.

On Thursday a group of Year 7 and 8 students competed at the North Zone Athletics competition, which is a qualifier for Otago Primary Schools’ Athletics due to be held later in the month.
There was some outstanding moments with Grace Brenssell jumping 1.32m in the High Jump, meaning she has qualified for Otago Primary Athletics.

Other notable moments were the senior relay team of Izzy Johnston, Olivia Andrew, Grace Brenssell and Analee Toro who ran a strong 7th in the 200m Relay final, and Gabi Horo who ran a tough semi final in the 75m Sprint.
