Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week being Te Reo Week has seen the Year 9 students immersed in Maori language and culture. They have taken classes in Maori language, learnt to use poi and have visited the Marae, as well as making kites out of flax.
Next week is Year 10’s turn who will have the Rich Task, which sees students working together to make a new country. A market place will be held at the end to see the new countries that have been created.
Juniors have also been busy practising for the Carol Service, which will be held at 5.00pm on Sunday 29 November in the Chapel. All families are very welcome to attend this special annual event.
The Christmas Raffle will be drawn at the service. Donations for the raffle can still be dropped off at the student office.
A reminder that the Passion Project Expo will be held at 5.30pm on Tuesday December 1. A number of the students will present their work in the Chapel and following this there will be time to view more of the work in the Library. Please remember your wallets, as some girls have turned their passion into fundraising or business activities.
As part of our commitment to service, a Junior Service Afternoon has been planned for Thursday 3rd December from 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm. Working with Volunteer Otago, the 2015 Prefect Group has devised a programme where groups of students and staff will be placed with local charitable organisations to assist for the afternoon. Activities will include, painting for Riding for Disabled, gardening for a local parish, “Adopt a Spot” environmental clean up, supporting Anglican Family Care and a range of other service activities. Details about the specific jobs and what equipment and dress the girls will need will be given to the girls closer to the time.
Good luck to students involved in the South Island Volleyball Championships next week.
Due to lack of demand, the canteen will not be operating for the remainder of the year.
Congratulations to Annabel Evans who has been selected to play in the Otago Women’s Golf Team at the New Zealand Interprovincials in Ashburton in December.
