Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Year 9 students have been busy taking part in Te Reo Week.  Girls have made kites from flax and toi toi, learnt how to use poi, visited the museum and Marae and today created and performed plays based on a Maori myth. There has been some fantastic learning as they immerse themselves in the language and culture of Aotearoa.

The annual Christmas Carol Service is being held at 5.00pm on Sunday 27 November in the Chapel.  All junior students are expected to attend this special service.  Uniform is not required and families are most welcome to attend.

Next week Year 9 students will present their Passion Projects at Monday’s Expo.  This will be held at 5.00pm in the Chapel and all family and friends are welcome to attend.

The Year 8 Graduation Ceremony is being held at 6.00pm on Tuesday 29 November.  This is an exciting time for the Year 8 students as they prepare to move into the middle school.

The St Hilda’s Poverty Group are holding a car wash at Beaurepaires on Cumberland Street from 12.00pm – 3.00pm on November 27 and December 4.

The secondhand uniform pool at Tolcarne will be shut from today until 23 January 2017. Dates and opening times will be included in the start up dates published in the newspaper and on the Parent Portal early next year.  Please click here for a cardholders offer available when purchasing uniform at H&J Smith.

Good luck to the Junior Water Polo Team who left yesterday to take part in the South Island Secondary Schools’ Water Polo Tournament.

Cultural Exchange Programme with Durban Girls’ College in South Africa

We are hoping to develop an exchange programme with Durban Girls’ College in South Africa.  To begin this relationship we are looking for a family of a 2016 Year 10 student who would be willing to host a student from South Africa who will be immersed in St Hilda’s and Dunedin culture. For some of her stay she will experience boarding at Tolcarne.

I have spoken to the girls about this early in Term 4 however if you would like more information please contact me at jmaw@shcs.school.nz.

The student will be at St Hilda’s from March 11th to April 22nd 2017. She will be in Year 11 and she will be timetabled into our school programme in the same way the Perth Exchange student is.  The following link will give you more information on Durban Girls’ College: http://www.dgc.co.za.

I would love to hear from any family who would be able to help us with developing this exciting new possibility.
