2017 Prefects with Ms Corkery, Mrs Barron, Mrs Dey and Mrs Maw

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to the 2017 school year!  While summer hasn’t been the best so far, we hope you have enjoyed the break with family and friends.

On Monday we held a mihi whakatau to welcome new staff, students and their families. Yvie Finn-House put together a video of the welcome for Hilda’s Hub, which can be viewed here.

Yesterday the 2017 Prefects were commissioned.  Rev’d Canon Alec Clark was in attendance and blessed the girls’ rings and badges as part of this special service.  House Captains were also voted on yesterday and the results are:

Havelock
Emma Taggart
Libby van Harselaar

Lawrence
Bridget Johnstone
Ella McDonald

Nelson
Sam Casse
Holly Wright

Wellington
Anna Frame
Dayna Gallagher

Please note that school is closed on Monday February 6 for Waitangi Day.  Athletics Day is to be held at the Caledonian on Thursday 9 February and we invite parents to school that evening at 5.30pm to ‘Meet the Dean’, an event which is kindly hosted by the Parents and Friends Association.  To view the programme for next week’s Athletics Day, please click here. Please remind your daughters to bring their hats to Athletics day.

Tolcarne News

The year has started with the new girls arriving along with a new Director of Boarding.  The year 9 girls have been quickly learning the Tolcarne routine, waking them up has been a pleasure as they are out of bed and heading for the dining room by 7am.  Their buddies have been actively supporting them this week with visits, hairdos, eating meals together and walking to the dairy. I have enjoyed being at Tolcarne each morning, especially waking up the girls.  My dog, Sushi, follows closely behind and the girls are very happy to see her in the mornings.

On Thursday night the girls had a take away style dinner while Tolcarne hosted the annual Year 13 Leaders Dinner. Parents, girls and staff enjoyed a beautiful meal prepared by Jodi and her team and together we acknowledged the contribution of the year 13 leaders.  This year Stella and Issy our head boarders are leading the Tribe dinners on a Monday night and the year 13 on a roster are leading the junior dinners held on a Tuesday through to Thursday.

The start of the year has been filled with smiling faces and girls re-adapting to Tolcarne and school life after an enjoyable and relaxing holiday time with family.
