Weekly News – Term 1 | Week 4

(L-R) Lilly-Anne Adam, Issie Robertson and Tamara Mason debating at Quad

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

On Sunday over 30 students departed for Summer Quad, hosted by Craighead Diocesan School in Timaru.  St Hilda’s placed first in Touch and Swimming, second in Debating, third in Volleyball and fourth in Tennis, placing us second overall – a great result against tough opposition.

Good luck to students involved in the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Rowing Regatta this weekend.

Year 12 and 13 PE students depart on Monday for their trip to Abel Tasman and Murchison. This trip is always a highlight of the year for the girls involved.  Wishing students and staff a safe and enjoyable time away.

As we prepare for the lead in to Lent we will be having pancakes and games next week for Shrove Tuesday and a special Ash Wednesday Chapel service.

Tolcarne News

The week started with a few less girls in the hostel as they departed for Summer Quad.  We welcomed back our Year 9 students who had been on camp and mostly had been home for the weekend.  It was a fun way to start the week with our tribe dress up and games night, although we did miss our Quad girls.

The Year 13 Tribe leaders devised an organised an evening with flair and fun.  They created a few kahoot games and we played fun outdoor games – including passing the water bomb balloon, and a marshmallow game which Zina was the champion of!  The girls have been enjoying the warmer weather and the use of the Tolcarne pool – Meg Hurring has been our resident life guard.

This weekend the girls are looking forward to our trip to the inaugural ‘Night Noodle Market’ in Dunedin – we have over 60 girls going along with four Tolcarne staff.

Super Rugby Tickets

Hawkins Construction have once again kindly made available tickets for Highlanders games at Forsyth Barr Stadium.  The next game is on March 4 against the Crusaders.

The seats are superbly located and you can enjoy pre and after match relaxation via access to the Level 2 and Level 4 hospitality areas.   Tickets will be processed on a first come, first served basis.  The price for these tickets is by fair and reasonable donation however we would expect a minimum donation of $25 per ticket. All funds will go to a hardship fund, which enables all students to participate in school camps and sports trips.  The tickets are full lounge access cards and as such will need to be returned to school after the game.

We have also been given the opportunity to provide tickets for the New Zealand vs South Africa cricket test which will be held at the Otago University Oval on March 8 – 12.  Tickets provide access to the Village Green – a new initiative for this year.  These VIP day passes are selling for $95pp on Ticketek.

If you are interested in attending either of these events, please email jpopa@shcs.school.nz.
