Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Yesterday we held a service to unveil the new stained glass window in the chapel, which was commissioned by the Old Girls Association.  We were fortunate to have many board members past and present and Old Girls join us for this very special service. Created by Dunedin Artist Peter Mackenzie, the window tells the story of the Sisters’ Geraldine and Etheleen, who came to Dunedin in the 1880s and established St Hilda’s Collegiate in 1896. The window depicts the sisters, the Otago harbour, the boat they arrived in and the vibrant flora and fauna that they found here.

There has been extensive consultation with Hoani Langsbury, and the Otakou marae, regarding the Māori patterns on the window, and also the Maiai and Taumoepeau families for detail on the Samoan tapa patterns that reflect the culture of the school and our community.   It is a stunning piece of work and we encourage you to come and have a look at it when you are in the school.
