Weekly News – Term 3 | Week 5

Suzie Bates with the Sports Prefects and Liaisons during her visit

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We were fortunate to have White Fern and Olympic Ambassador Suzie Bates visit this week to talk to the girls in assembly.  The Olympic Ambassador programme aims to engage as many young New Zealanders with Olympian role models as possible.  After assembly, Suzie joined our Sports Prefects and Liaisons for a question and answer session over lunch.  The girls really enjoyed this opportunity.

Well done to Sings Hilda for their performance in the weekend at the Big Sing Finale.  The girls came away with the Bronze award – an amazing achievement given the size of our choir.

Congratulations to our 2015 Class Act recipients, Ihlara McIndoe and Aliesha Ruske, who will be acknowledged at the award ceremony next Thursday.

Our new canteen will be operational from Wednesday of next week.  Thank you for your support during this transition time.

Good luck to seniors for their exams next week.  These mock exams give seniors a chance to prepare for externals in November.

Examinations and Reports for Senior students
Our Year 11, 12 and 13 students are sitting their Benchmark examinations next week.

For these Benchmarks to be as authentic as possible they needed to be as late as practicable, so that staff could teach as much content as possible, while still allowing time for marking and then relevant feedback to you and your daughter that is useful for externals preparation and identifies next steps.

The staff have given considerable thought to how best to ensure that the senior reports are appropriate, useful and timely, and consequently we have changed the format of the report being sent to you following the examinations. The primary intent is to provide the most up-to-date picture of completed internal assessment and benchmark external assessment. This report will be emailed to parents at the beginning of Week 9 (14 September).

The report will give an indication of credits available and achieved to date, numeracy and literacy status, and results from the benchmark examinations. There will only be brief generic comments shared by teachers that give an indication of progress, and strategies to use going forward to external examinations.

Parents and students are strongly encouraged to attend formal Parent-Teacher-Interviews in Week 10 (the week beginning 21 September) to discuss in-depth learning strategies leading up to the external assessments. The timing of the report is to allow you to discuss the content with your daughter, make Parent/Teacher appointments, receive valuable feedback and then have a plan for the remaining weeks of the school year and into the external assessment period in Term 4.

The purpose of this initiative is to best support your daughters learning at a critical time of the year. We look forward to your feedback on this process.
