The Junior A Basketball Team
The Junior A Basketball Team

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We have had a large number of students away this week competing at Winter Tournament. The Junior A Basketball team won their division, the Senior A Netball team placed 9th and the A Basketball team are currently playing in the semi final against Waimea.  Georgia Heffernan was named in the South Island Secondary Schools’ netball tournament team. Full tournament results, including hockey and football, will be published next week.

Next week is Library Week.  There will be a daily book quiz and a Dress Up as a Book Character Mufti Day on Wednesday, as well as the chance to return overdue library books for an edible reward.

Reports and Student-Parent-Teacher Interviews

We have changed the format of the report being sent to you following the examinations for senior students. The primary intent is to provide the most up-to-date picture of completed internal assessment and benchmark external assessment. This report will be emailed to parents at the beginning of Week 9 (14 September).

The report will give an indication of credits available and achieved to date, numeracy and literacy status, and results from the benchmark examinations. There will only be brief generic comments shared by teachers that give an indication of progress, and strategies to use going forward to external examinations.

Parents and students are strongly encouraged to attend formal Parent-Teacher-Interviews in Week 10 (the week beginning 21 September) to discuss in-depth learning strategies leading up to the external assessments. The timing of the report is to allow you to discuss the content with your daughter, make Parent/Teacher appointments, receive valuable feedback and then have a plan for the remaining weeks of the school year and into the external assessment period in Term 4.

The purpose of this initiative is to best support your daughters learning at a critical time of the year. We look forward to your feedback on this process.

To meet the requirements of our senior students’ preparation for NCEA assessment we are holding separate senior and junior interviews.

This will allow an opportunity for targeted discussions for both Senior and Junior students leading into their respective assessments.

Is your car dirty? Does it need a ‘spring’ clean? How about you let us wash it this weekend…

Where: Beaurepaires on Andersons Bay Road
When: 11.00am – 3.00pm
Why: The SHCS Competitive Aerobics and Hip Hop Squad are fundraising for their trip to the National Championship in Wellington later this month.

We even have a sausage sizzle and hot coffee to offer you, while you stay in the warmth of your vehicle and wait while the friendly faces of St Hilda’s (and their parents) do the work for you.

Weather permitting….
