Mrs Barron with the 2016 Prefects
Mrs Barron with the 2016 Prefects

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to the school year for 2016.  It’s been great to see new and familiar faces around school this week.

Year 13 students spent Monday and Tuesday at Camp Tirohanga for their Year 13 Retreat, a group of Year 11 – 13 students have taken part in Peer Mentor Training and yesterday we held the Prefect Commissioning Service.

House Captains have also been voted in and the results are as follows:

Aria Park and Brie Shea

Georgia Clarke and Brigette Hoskin

Gracie Hannagan and Isla Huffadine

Tink Brinsley-Turner and Isabella Millar

The house groups will be busy practicing their chants for Tuesday’s athletics day.  As part of Shrove Tuesday, pancakes will be served and games will be played at lunchtime.

A reminder to parents of the Parent Evening on Tuesday at 5.30pm in the Chapel.

Class and Group photos will be taken on Wednesday 10 February.  Students must be wearing their full formal uniform for these photos.

Information regarding Athletics Day

The programme for the day can be viewed here.  Students must be at the Caledonian for roll call at 8.30am and will need to ensure they have sunblock / hats / water to keep hydrated / warm clothes (spare socks and a towel – optional).  There will be several other roll calls taken during the course of the day.

The Arts Department will be running a barbecue to raise funds for this year’s production so students can bring cash for this.

Athletes should keep in mind that the format is different this year in that there is no distinction between championship and non-championship events and if they want to be in contention for cups, they should run their fastest in heats as the fastest eight times go through to finals.

Parents are welcome to come and support – we look forward to seeing you there.

Enjoy the day and support your houses!

School Fair

Next week we are collecting items for the Tombola.  The item must be new and have a minimum value of $5.  We ask that the following year levels bring:

  • Years 7 & 8 – Lollies/chocolate
  • Year 9 – Stationery
  • Year 10 – Toiletries
  • Years 11 – Knick knacks
  • Year 12 – Toys/games/puzzles
  • Year 13 – Candles/giftware

Thank you for your support in this.

Student Achievement

Zara Anthony-Whigham represented New Zealand at the Australian Ice Figure Skating Championships at the end of last year and has also qualified for the New Zealand Development squad and, most prestigiously, the New Zealand International Squad.

Olivia Gold has made the New Zealand Youth Surf Life Saving Squad which is training for the Youth World Champs to be held in the Netherlands this year.

Georgia Copeman has made the Otago U12 Tennis Team.

Olivia George has made the U15 Mixed Touch Team and will compete at next week’s National Tournament.

Notice of new canteen

On Wednesday February 10 the Canteen will begin operation for the year. It is my pleasure to be able to provide food for the students and staff to enjoy. I hope to bring the same freshness and flavour to your intervals and lunches as I do already at my café (Sweet Bird on St Andrew St). There will be a wide selection of snacks and meals, most of them made on site or by my café team. From baking you wish your Mum could make to new twists on old favourites I am sure we will have something for everyone. My team and I look forward to serving you.
