Weekly News – Term 1 | Week 9

L-R Emma Andrew, Grace Cotter and Annabel Bilkey at the Otago Schools’ Triathlon in Cromwell

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to the last weeks of term.  I trust you had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter Weekend.

An email was sent to parents last week regarding next term’s Learning Conversations (previously Parent/Teacher Interviews).  An interim report will be emailed to parents at the end of Term 1 and Learning Conversations will be held between parents, students and teachers on Monday 2 May.  This day will be a Teacher Only Day, with interviews taking place from 11.00am onwards.  Girls are not required to attend class but will be expected to attend the Learning Conversations as booked.  Uniform is not required for the Learning Conversations.  Classes for Term 2 will begin for all students at 8.40am on Tuesday 3 May.  The interview booking site will open on Monday 11 April and remain open until Friday 29 April.  The link and password will be posted in next week’s newsletter.

Mrs Barron is attending a Principal’s Conference early next week and hopes to support girls at the rowing, waterpolo and triathlon as time and competition permits.   Good luck to all students participating in tournaments next week.

There is a PFA meeting next Tuesday in the staffroom at 7.00pm.

Student Achievement

Abbey Johnston, Olivia O’Neill, Jess Faulks and Biddy Johnstone have been invited to the U18 New Zealand Touch Trials in October.

Beryn Abbott has been invited to the New Zealand Elite Touch Youth Academy at the end of the year – this is a training camp for players who only just miss out on making New Zealand teams.

Annabel Bilkey, Grace Cotter and Emma Andrew participated in the Otago Schools’ Triathlon in Cromwell on Wednesday and placed first in the Year 8 Girls’ Team Event.

Super 15 Rugby Tickets

Hawkins Construction have kindly donated a number of corporate lounge-access centre-line tickets for the Super 15 games at the Forsyth Barr Stadium. We have tickets available for the following games:

  • Friday 22 April – Highlanders vs Sharks
  • Friday 13 May – Highlanders vs Crusaders
  • Saturday 16 July – Highlanders vs Chiefs

The seats are superbly located and you can enjoy pre and after match relaxation via access to the Level 2 and Level 4 hospitality areas.   Tickets will be processed on a first come, first served basis.  Extra tickets may be available and as such could be a good opportunity for business owners or managers to take their staff or clients out in an affordable way.  The price for these tickets is by fair and reasonable donation however we would expect a minimum donation of $25 per ticket. All funds will go to a hardship fund, which enables all students to participate in school camps and sports trips.

The tickets are full lounge access cards and as such will need to be returned to school after the game.  Please email Joanne at jpopa@shcs.school.nz if you are interested.
